Black History Month 

February is Black History Month, and we wanted to share some of our favorite reading lists for kids.  The books are either by Canadian authors, or describe experiences relevant to Canada and its people.

 

This extensive list by Toronto Public Library has titles from preschoolers to pre-teens: CLICK HERE.

From picture books describing diverse cultural experiences and people to introducing young readers to the stories of Harriet Tubman, Oscar Peterson, Viola Desmond, and to lived experiences of discrimination and segregation.

This awesome Penguin RandomHouse list has great picks from boardbooks to young adults: CLICK HERE.

The books here range from Antiracist Baby Boardbook by Ibram X. Kendi (you may recognize his name as the author of grownup award-winning books Stamped from the Beginning and How to be an Antiracist) to chapter books describing Black experiences and celebrating heroes.
